Today’s stationer interview is with Kelly from RSVP to me. We love all the custom designs on her site, so it was not easy to select the ones to feature today. Thank you so much Kelly for sharing your time!
1. How did you get started doing wedding invitations?
‘RSVP to me’ was created around the time of my own wedding, in august of 2006. I began a search for invitations that would absolutely “wow” my guests. I was looking for something non-traditional, yet elegant; unusual, but not “over-the-top.” After a long, unsuccessful search, I decided to experiment with various papers, prints and embellishments – trying to fashion what i would have liked to have found, but couldn’t. After many days of hard work and trial and error, I created not only my own invitations, but also my save-the-dates, programs, escort and favor cards, and even thank you cards!
At my wedding, I received so many unbelievable compliments on my invitations and stationery. It was great to hear that my friends and family loved my work. Then it occurred to me – wouldn’t it be wonderful if I could create great invitations and stationery for my family and friends? As I took on a few small orders, my budding venture expanded. by word of mouth the orders grew and my venture rapidly evolved into ‘RSVP to me’, a small but thriving business.
2. What is your favorite color combination?
It’s a TIE! I LOVE the elegance of gray & purple but also love the vibrant combination of red & teal.
3. What is the most unique invitation you have designed?
They’re ALL unique in their own way! Being that everything is so custom, and nothing is out of books, no one ever picks someone else’s invitation!
4. Do you have a favorite typeface?
Oooh, that’s a TOUGH one! My husband calls me “font girl” because I can name most fonts on sight! I get WAY too excited when I order new fonts! But I guess one of my REAL favorites right now is the one on my website….”Burgues Script.” It’s SO pretty and versatile with all the glyphs, & even looks great in all lowercase.
5. What is the most bizarre request you have received?
Hmmm, I don’t think it’s necessarily “bizarre,” but I’ve had several clients ask for the invitation to be printed in another language. Other than that, no real crazy requests…..sorry!
6. Ampersand or the word “and?”
Ampersand ALL the way!
7. Any advice for brides?
Do NOT order invitations “online” without seeing, touching, feeling what you are getting!! I can’t tell you how many times brides have come to me saying they need my help after they’ve either ordered ALL the invitations online, or just a sample, and have been very disappointed with the quality AND the customer service! I pride myself & my business on QUALITY papers & product, as well as impeccable customer service!
8. Do you offer more than just stationery?
We do!! We actually have a “sister” business doing candy buffet & dessert tables!! SO, besides invitations & stationery for ALL occasions, we LOVE providing that “sweet” display!!! Check out our website.
