Our wedding stationer interview is with Senna of Senna Jean Designs! Such a great combination of graphic design prowess combined with beautiful wedding stationery. Enjoy:

How did you get started doing wedding invitations?

The first wedding invitations I designed were my very own. They were designed as part of an assignment when I was studying graphic design. From there I began designing all types of event stationery for friends and family and grew my business one event at a time.

What is your favourite colour combination?

Black and white – oh so elegant. I have recently collaborated with Amey from Pack A Perfect Party at the Sunshine Coast Celebration Fair where we put together an amazing setting and stationery with a black, gold and white theme. Perfect for an opulent wedding or dinner party.

What is the most unique invitation you have designed?

A friend of mine had a destination wedding and I designed invitations in the theme of a boarding pass and the wishing well cards were made to look like luggage tags. It was a fun job to work on.

Do you have a favourite typeface?

I have so many! I could spend hours searching the internet for fonts and seem to have a new favourite every month. At the moment I really love Sudestada – I enjoy its beautiful curves and the organic nature of it . This font has recently featured in a Bollywood themed invitation I have designed – Images to be revealed in the near future on my Facebook page.

What is the most bizarre request you have received?

I haven’t really had any crazy requests from clients, yet! I like designing things that are different as it keeps you on your toes and challenges you.

Ampersand or the word “and?”

Ampersand. I do think it depends on the application and sometimes it is nice to use the word ‘and’ in a formal situation but there are just so many different types of ampersands and they add a bit of flair. One of my favourite ampersands is the Italic Garamond.

Any advice for brides?

Enjoy the process! It’s all about you and it’s your day! The best kind of bride is one who is enjoying herself and is trusting of her designer. Have faith in the experts,.

Do you offer more than just stationery?

As a qualified graphic designer I offer a range of design services including event stationery and decoration design and construction, brand establishment and unique prints for the home or office. The most common work is for event stationary but I enjoy the freedom of making prints that fit my mood and current trends, my house is full of frames with custom prints! I also enjoy making my own decorations, I recently made a lamp for my home office that just completed the space perfectly!
