How did you get into wedding florals?
I have always had the passion for flowers, watching my grandmother grow peonies, and other amazing blooms my passion grew from that. Years ago I started a little part time hobby from my kitchen while working full time at a high end bridal shop. From there my business grew and continued to blossom until I opened my studio in 2012, I had quit my full time job after my last baby was born in 2003 and never looked back.
I have control of my own work, being able to plan , order, pick every bloom , and design the final product for each and every event. No 2 weddings are alike. I love seeing the final product come to life after working with some of my clients for over a year.
What is your favorite flower and / or style (modern, classic, natural, glam) and why?
I love the lady slipper orchid it is an amazing flower so strong, stunning yet unique and one of a kind look. My style is all over the board I have done every type of wedding. BUT I love the bride who will push us to our limit. Having clients that give me have 100% control that is my best work!
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding florists just getting started?
I have seen in the past 4 year many “new” people come into the flower world. Many planners adding flowers to their bio’s I say before you take that on work with an experienced designer learn mechanics, processing, and design before you just open shop, there is way more work to floral design then just cut and throw into a pretty vase. I see some really low quality work being called “design”. Take your time and start slow. I am always happy to help you out if anyone has questions.
What are you favorite trends when it comes to wedding flowers?
Full lush, cascading bouquets are my favorite, peonies, garden roses, locally grown dahlias, are just stunning.
Go to a experienced florist. look at their website, ask questions. I know cost is a big factor but remember you get what you pay for. Referrals are your best bet; ask your friends who have just had a wedding.
