Tell us a bit about yourself and your company
I’m Marirosa, a wedding photographer based out of Northern Virginia (just about 25 min from Washington DC). I have been a photographer since 2006 and have specialized in weddings since 2009! I totally love photographing weddings, allowing me to really capture the essence of the love story as it unfolds throughout the wedding day!

How did you get into wedding photography?
I had a friend back in 2008 after I was doing lifestyle photos ask me to photograph her wedding, I was a bit nervous but she believed in me so I did and I’ve never looked back!
What is your favorite part of the wedding day to capture?
Oh, the moments, those moments that the couple doesn’t even know occur. I love looking for emotions and connections so that I can give couples a full view of their day from lots of perspectives!
What is the most awkward moment you’ve experienced while on the job?
Not sure if I’ve ever had full awkward… a few that stand out in my mind was when a group of groomsmen decided that chanting my name during the reception on the dance floor was a good idea! I had to laugh! I did also have a cake that was placed under a spotlight and surrounded by candles, as the couple went to cut the cake, it started to fall, thankfully – I put my arm up and stopped the cake from tipping as my 2nd shooter was able to get the ‘cutting’ shot…. The couple was pretty happy we got the moment and the cake wasn’t on the floor.
What is your favorite venue and why?
In the DC area we have some amazing venues so it’s tough to choose just one. Some of my favorites truly stand out for not only the beauty of the location but how wonderful they are to their clients and their vendors… Lansdowne Resort in Leesburg VA, Mayflower Hotel in Washington DC, Rosemont Manor in Berryville VA, International Country Club in Fairfax VA…. I’m very lucky to be surrounded by amazing venues – from hotels to vineyards to manors and country clubs!
Nikon or Canon?
I’m a Canon girl!
What is your dream location to shoot a wedding?
I would Love to photograph a wedding in a few spots – including: Italy, Iceland, New York City and Charleston South Carolina. I’ve been lucky to do a few destination weddings in Puerto Rico, Mexico, New Orleans, Boston…
If you could shoot any celebrity wedding (past, present or future), who would be the lucky couple?
2 couples I would of loved – Angelina and Brad or George Clooney and Amal
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding photographers just getting started?
Best lesson – to surround yourself with a photography and industry community to share your successes and triumphs with but also learn from. I’m a huge believer is friendship and support vs competing against each other!
What tips or advice can you give to couples who are looking to hire a photographer to cover their big day?
I would tell any couple looking for a photographer to be sure you have a connection with the person you choose, they will be spending so much of the day near you that you want to be sure you can rely on them and like them as people! I would also suggest to value where photography falls on your list of wedding day priorities – and lastly, ask questions – so you know exactly what you will be receiving and can expect from your photographer!
