Today’s wedding planner interview is with Jean Neuhart of Weddings From The Heart, based in Dayton, Ohio! Enjoy:
Tell us a bit about yourself and your company.
I created Weddings From The Heart to help couples at any stage of their wedding planning process, while providing as much or as little assistance as they want. Although I offer 3 main services (full-service planning/coordination, on-site direction (aka “day-of”), and consulting sessions), all are specifically tailored for couple. That way they get the help they want.
I can’t believe that I started this over 20 years ago. Time really does fly when you’re having fun. I’m based out of Dayton, but I will go to where ever the couple want to get married. I always say that’s what they make cars and roads for. :)

How did you get into wedding planning?
My love for weddings sparked with my own wedding. My husband and I planned our wedding mostly during lunch breaks, as many vendors were closed by the time we got off of work, and we were working crazy hours. It has since blossomed
Although stressful, the experience stuck with me. There was never an ‘a ha’ moment of “this is want I want to do.” Instead it was a gradual progression and blossoming of an interest, and is such a huge part of my life.

What’s your favorite part of the job?
There is so much to love that it’s hard to pick just one.
Meeting with the couple and talking about how then envision their wedding day, (no two couples are alike, so the possibilities are endless!) Researching and brainstorming ideas, and coming up with new ways to express these ideas. Seeing it all come together on the wedding day.

And of course, seeing the big smiles on my couples’ faces as they are celebrating their wedding day!
One of my favorite quotes is “The most damaging phrase in the language is: ‘It’s always been done that way.’” So true with weddings. I love to help couples make choices based on what makes the most sense for them and their event, not because of some preconceived notion of it has to be a certain way. There is no one right or wrong way to do things, only what is right or wrong for each couple.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding planners just getting started?
Never stop. Keep learning, keep reading, keep doing. Network. Be the best you can possibly be.
What are your hobbies or non-work-related activities?
I love to read, cook, travel, go to the movies, and hang out with my guys (my husband Rob, our 19 year old son Anthony, and our 14 year old furbaby Ryan).

What is your current favorite color combination?
Since I’m still seeing a lot of couples choosing blue as their main color, I like seeing it paired up with different combos – navy blue with whites and silvers, indigo with oranges and pinks (think ‘sunset’), or monochromatic with Sapphire, Cornflower, Periwinkle, and Pale Blue.
Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind?
I’m still loving the rustic trend. There are so many variations within this theme – vintage, natural, woodsy. . .

What tips or advice can you give to couples who are in the midst of planning?
Never forget why you’re doing this. The reason for planning a wedding isn’t about the big party or presents. It’s because you get to spend the rest of your life with the love of your life and to celebrate that love and this new journey as a ‘married couple.’
