Today’s wedding planner interview is with Brittni Quick of Cheers & Co., based in Knoxville, Tennessee! Enjoy:
Tell us a bit about yourself and your company.
I am creative, and a bit obsessed, with each wedding I plan. Everything I do and see in my daily life, I think about how to implement new ideas into a wedding. I am a no-shame Pinterest addict, and think it’s an amazing tool to make any idea come alive. We specialize in adding traditional wedding elements in with fresh, new ideas for a modern approach to the perfect wedding day.

How did you get into wedding planning?
I was really inspired to start my own event planning business after I realized the other wedding options in my area. I had already interned at many Knoxville event planning firms, and felt something was missing, and that everyone seemed to offer the same traditional designs. I don’t want my brides to choose the average banquet hall with all of the boring must-haves just because it was a wedding. I wanted to be able to provide each bride with something fresh and fun, and that was specific to their personalities.
What’s your favorite part of the job?
I always tell my brides that while I’m planning their wedding, I am their best friend. I love being able to be the person they obsess with about all of the details of their wedding. Being a bride is all-consuming, and your friends (or fiance) don’t always want to talk about table linens for an hour. I want each bride to walk away from the experience of planning her wedding (and the actual wedding day) with nothing but amazing memories.
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding planners just getting started?
Intern for at least one experienced planner first! I know internships are not fun, but wedding planning isn’t anything like the movies and it’s not just flowers and pretty dresses. You have to be very organized and a little obsessive to be good at it, and working with a pro is the best way to get a feel for how it will really be.
What are your hobbies or non-work-related activities?
I love to travel and cook. My favorite weekends are spent driving to random cities and trying new restaurants.
Any great stories from working with a client?
I have so many great stories from weddings, but my favorite is probably one of my recent weddings in Asheville. This was a very unique mixture of families coming together, one side was very proper and sophisticated while the other side was very laid-back and loved to party. Adding to that stress, they had never met before. About an hour into the reception, the wilder side were pulling the grandmas out on the dance floor and everyone was having a great time.
What is your current favorite color combination?
I could not be more obsessed with the “woodland” theme right now. My favorite look is all-white everything, with touches of blush and foliage everywhere. It is so dreamy.
Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind?
I love it when a bride does whatever she wants on her wedding day. That is the whole point of having your own wedding, right? Nothing excites me more than when a bride doesn’t care about sticking to every single wedding tradition, and makes the day about her and her groom. I would love to see brides leave behind stuffy ceremonies. I understand that some religions require certain aspects be a part of the ceremony, but the ceremony should be focused on the couple getting married! I love that more and more couples are writing their own vows and really personalizing the ceremony, because that really is the most important part.
What tips or advice can you give to couples who are in the midst of planning?
Think outside of the “wedding” box. Don’t restrict yourself to a venue just because it is wedding venue. My favorite weddings were held in art galleries, lofts, and rental estates. You have an unforgettable experience that also tends to be cheaper than a typical wedding venue.
