How did you get into wedding planning?
I used to be a Special Events Manager for a top restaurant in Westchester, NY. Working with brides on their engagement parties, rehearsal dinners etc. made me want to take myself to the next level. I have always had my eye on the beauty of weddings and events.
What’s your favorite part of the job?
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding planners just getting started?
Being a home based office, you have to be so disciplined. It was definitely something that I had to learn how to do. Establishing working hours and being able to put your work down is harder, because the work is always in front of you. Now I finally know how to balance the two.
It’s also very important to know your brand and establish your identity as a wedding planner. Every wedding planner is different. Know what your brand is, believe in it, be confident about your services and don’t ever oversell yourself!
What are your hobbies or non-work-related activities?
I love spending time with my husband. Catching up with my friends and catching up with TV shows, lol.
Any great stories from working with a client?
I did a wedding a few months ago and the client was a customer of mine from my previous job. The wedding was very special because they both had kids from a previous marriage. During speeches, I teared up a little because there was so much love in the room and everyone at the wedding was close friends and family only. The amount of love was infinite and that made the evening so much more special. The love and acceptance they have for each other’s kids was remarkable and definitely felt in that room.
What is your current favorite color combination?
A white wedding is always my favorite. There is a simple elegance about it that cannot be described. I also love subtle, neutral and fall combinations.
Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind?
I am open to all trends. Any trends that are going to make a wedding different and memorable are the ones that I love.
What tips or advice can you give to couples who are in the midst of planning?
Hire a coordinator, lol. The last thing you should worry about is logistics on your wedding day or months leading up to it. You shouldn’t have to worry about a thing other than saying “I Do” and celebrating your special day.
