Today’s wedding planner interview is with Taryn and Keith of Last Minute Wed, Philadelphia, New York!

Tell us a bit about yourself and your company.

Hi there! Our names are Taryn and Keith Collins and we’re the owners of Last Minute Wed. We’ve been in the wedding planning industry since 2007 and recently opened Last Minute Wed to offer couples discounts on wedding vendors in every category.

How did you get into wedding planning?

We are both from a theater background, with Taryn doing a lot of directing. As she was directing, she was also working for a wedding photography company. The two combined seamlessly into wedding planning and we haven’t looked back!

What’s your favorite part of the job?

Spreading sunshine! We know how stressful wedding planning can be, so we created our planning company with the simple goal in mind to remove that stress from the planning process. The biggest stresser, of course, is always money, which is a big reason that we created Last Minute Wed.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding planners just getting started?

Build relationships with vendors, both business relationships and friendships. It’s so wonderful to work with vendors that you know do amazing work and who are fun to be around! Plus, the referrals alone on both sides make it worth it.

What are your hobbies or non-work-related activities?

We have two cats and a dog so they’re a big hobby! We love to spend time at Disney, and to relax at night by playing Mario Kart.

Any great stories from working with a client?

Our own wedding is our favorite “wedding story”. We got married in Cancun, and it was a beautiful morning. About thirty minutes before ceremony, as all of our guests were heading to the ceremony space, there was a single drop of rain and then a DOWNPOUR. Everyone was completely soaking wet (except Taryn, who was waiting in a room to leave). The hotel gave her a poncho, and her dad had a towel over his head as they walked to ceremony (instead of a horse carriage ride). The second they entered, they threw off the poncho and towel in unison and the whole room went WILD. For reception, all of our guests took off their shoes and we danced through the night. It was perfectly imperfect.

What is your current favorite color combination?

We’re on a deep red, orange, yellow, and teal kick right now, but that’s simply because we’re working with a lot of fall weddings! We’ll always love pastels

Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind?

We’re in love with the “film” wedding style of photography. If we could have every couple shoot with it, we would!

What tips or advice can you give to couples who are in the midst of planning?

Check out Last Minute Wed to save money on your vendors! Otherwise, our biggest advice is always this: Keep in mind that at the end of the day, you’ll be married to your best friend. That’s all that matters. If everything goes wrong, smile and make the best of it!
