Today’s wedding planner interview is with Andrea Davis of Entyse Lyfe Weddings & Events, based in Temple Hills, Maryland. Enjoy!

Tell us a bit about yourself and your company.

My name is Andrea Davis and I am the founder of Entyse Lyfe (which is pronounced Entice Life). I was born in Arlington, raised in PG County and spent plenty of time in DC. My background is Business Administration but I have always been attracted to the world of Events. I am a mother of two, my beautiful daughter Kaira, and my wonderful son Dillan.

How did you get into wedding planning?

In January 2014, I took a leap of faith and coordinated my first wedding. That was the most nervous day of my life but I think on that day I got married too, I married my business of Wedding Planning. And now I eat, sleep, breathe weddings, lol.

What’s your favorite part of the job?

I have three favorite parts actually. I love to comfort my bride, put her at ease and allow her to enjoy herself. I love seeing a room come together through the collaborative efforts of my team and all the vendors involved. And I love when the guest are having so much fun they can’t stop complimenting the job well done.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding planners just getting started?

The biggest lesson learned thus far is how crucial Networking is to grow. Not just for referral purposes but also to find other vendors that you gel with to be able to work well with on other projects. It makes the event come together all the more beautifully! And be authentic, because that’s who bride’s want to see. The best version of you but still just you!

What are your hobbies or non-work-related activities?

I am a huge movie fan; I’m a sucker for a good comedy. I like to try new things with the kids. Recently we went to a Trampoline Park and it was so much fun just to jump around. I love arts and craft projects so Michael’s is one of my favorite stores. And I am an avid reader. Blogs, books, articles, you name it I will read it!

Any great stories from working with a client?

I have had the pleasure of having some really wonderful brides. Some of them really inspiring too. Women who were engineers, soprano opera singers, fellow entrepreneurs, and mom’s just like me. I had one bride who took a trip to Africa before her wedding and as a thank you to me she brought me back a beautiful handmade centerpiece that sits on my dinning room table today.

What is your current favorite color combination?

It is well documented that my favorite color is purple. It is in my logo, all over my website and usually somewhere near me (either a pen or notebook, etc.). My favorite color combo is purple, black and white. There is something very classic, elegant and sophisticated about those colors together to me.

Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind?

I know I may get into some trouble for this one, but I am so over Mason Jars. They are widely popular and have been for a few years now but I would like to leave those behind. I do however love the new trends with softer color palettes. Like the 2016 Pantone colors. I think they are lovely!

What tips or advice can you give to couples who are in the midst of planning?

I give the same advice to each one of my brides and grooms. Don’t let wedding planning take over your life. Have “Wedding Free” days were you don’t discuss the wedding. Go on date nights and get out to enjoy each other. Don’t take it all on yourself, include your family and friends. And remember, it’s just an event. Your marriage is important part, more important than one single event.
