ow did you get into wedding planning?
I realized I had a passion for wedding planning after planning my own wedding and then volunteering to help family and friends with their own wedding or events just for fun. I learned it was more than just my own wedding I got so excited about–it was all weddings and events! I quickly decided it must be my calling–when I was trying to concentrate on other work, I was wishing I was planning a wedding instead!
What’s your favorite part of the job?
My favorite part of the job is saving people money! Finding ways to do this without their guests ever noticing is like the ultimate challenge for me. Most brides and grooms do not realize that a wedding planner can actually save them money through their knowledge and connections with vendors. Seeing and hearing the reactions of a couple I just saved hundreds or thousands of dollars makes my week!
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding planners just getting started?
You cannot be everything to everyone. Plan the type of events that you know and are passionate about!
What are your hobbies or non-work-related activities?
I love spending time with my hubby and son, as well as with my large extended family! I like to cook and bake, although I hate the cleaning up part. I also like to craft when I can find the time.
Any great stories from working with a client?
One couple I worked with wanted to dance back down the aisle after they were announced as husband and wife. It was a lot of fun because not only did they and their bridal party do it, so did the pastor! It was such a fun group to work with and they all made my job even more fun!
What is your current favorite color combination?
Right now, my favorite color combination is light pinks, cream and gold. It’s a timeless combination and so romantic!
Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind?
I am loving the food truck wedding trend! What a great way to make your wedding fun and unforgettable.
What tips or advice can you give to couples who are in the midst of planning?
Do not forget why you are doing all of this planning in the first place. Prioritize your wedding needs, wants and desires and allocate money accordingly. Focus as much time and attention on the marriage itself as you did during all of the planning.
