Today’s wedding stationer interview is with UK based designer Ofe Oyasor of Ollie’s Studio! Enjoy:

How did you get started doing wedding invitations?

Making invitations kind of started with my wedding. I figured that DIY would be fun and a great way to save some money but I didn’t really consider making it my career until after my daughter was born. I’ve always wanted to do something creative and I also wanted to be at home with my daughter. So after a lot of thought, (and a lot of compliments on my daughter’s christening invitations), I decided to leave the world of finance and embrace the world of pretty paper. I haven’t been doing it very long and I’m learning a lot as I go but oh my goodness, I absolutely love what I do now!

What is your favorite color combination?

Black and white with red accents. It’s elegant and passionate at the same time.

What is the most unique invitation you have designed?

The most unique invitations I’ve designed are my daughter’s first birthday invitations. They were a real labour of love and consisted of engraved 3mm thick wooden invitations, encased in handmade folios made of the softest maroon leather and tied up with twine. They were then enclosed in handmade burlap envelopes with leather address labels and coconut shell button closures. It was my husband’s idea to work with wood and leather as we were having a barbecue and “you have meat (leather) and wood at a barbecue right?” lol. They were made for a birthday but would also be amazing for a rustic or ranch style wedding.

Do you have a favorite typeface?

That’s kind of like asking me to choose between my kids! Lol. I do like to use Trajan Pro for body text and I just adore hand drawn calligraphy fonts. All of them! I can’t pick one. Don’t make me!

What is the most bizarre request you have received?

Design wise, I don’t think anything is bizarre. I love challenges and will go above and beyond to get my clients what they need. I love creating so bring it on!

Ampersand or the word “and?”

Both please! Ampersands are fun and quirky and “and” is great for formal invitations.

Any advice for brides?

Try to enjoy the planning process, trust your stationery designer and hire a good photographer. It all goes by so fast and the paper products and photos (and the husband of course) might be the only tangible reminders you’ll have of your day.

Do you offer more than just stationery?

Yes we do! Custom wine labels, stickers, backdrops, signage, glitter letters, giant paper flowers, laser cut cake toppers… if there’s paper and/or glitter involved we’ve got you covered.
