Today’s wedding vendor interview is with Maris Sotsky of Bottle & Bottega Miami, a fun company specializing in wine and art parties! Enjoy:
Tell us a bit about yourself and your company.
I founded Bottle & Bottega Miami in 2013 and opened our studio location in 2015. We bring upscale art parties to clients or host events in our studio that incorporate painting and sipping. We supply all the art materials, supplies and instruction and people create their very own one of a kind masterpiece that they get to take home. It’s a great way to celebrate a special occasion with friends such as a bridal shower or bachelorette party!

How did you get into the business?
I came across this idea when I hosted my best friends wedding shower at a Bottle & Bottega in Chicago. Everyone came up to me after the event and told me how much fun it was and how it was way more entertaining than a “normal” bridal shower. When I moved to Miami Bottle & Bottega was looking to expand across the country and I thought since Miami is such an art-focused city we could really use something that makes art accessible to everyone in South Florida.
What’s your favorite part of the job?
Hands down my favorite part of the job is seeing clients reactions to what they are able to accomplish. So many people are intimidated to paint at first claiming that they’re terrible artists or haven’t done anything artistic since kindergarten. When they walk out with their paintings they are always so proud of themselves and can’t believe what they were able to do with a little inspiration, instruction and wine!
If you could pick one unique product or service offering, which would be your favorite, and why?
My favorite product offering we do is our custom murals. We work with a company or individual ahead of time to custom design some artwork specifically for them that the group then works together to paint and take home. They always turn out amazingly and really wow the whole group as to what they were able to accomplish together! Its a great way for a bride to get all her bridesmaids involved to paint a momento of the event.
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to others just getting started in your field?
Starting a business is no easy feat so I would say to have patience! It’s hard work and nothing happens overnight but the results can be really rewarding.
What are your hobbies or non-work-related activities?
My husband and I love to travel and see new places and experiences. I also love to relax with my friends over a bottle of wine, probably partially why I love this business so much! We also love to take our puppy out on excursions around Miami.
Any great stories from working with a client?
I love when clients throw brides a surprise shower or bachelorette party so they have no idea what they’re doing– they’re always shocked when they walk in and see what they’ll be doing! We offer nude model painting for bachelorette parties and lots of times the guests will not tell the bride what the subject of the painting will be until the model walks out– it’s a blast to see their response and how much fun they have at the events.
What makes you different from others in your field?
We specialize in customizing out-of-the-box events for clients and upscale presentation. Our studio is modeled after a loft you might find in Paris with vibrant colors and chic decor unlike similar studios to ours. We also work directly with our clients to figure out what they’re looking to get out of their events and take into account everything from timing to budget to plan the perfect unique experience just for them.
Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind?
I obviously love making the activities surrounding the big day interactive in any way you can. This is the one time in your life where you’ll get to spend time with the people who mean the most to you, why not do something fun together as a group that everyone will always remember? I would like to see the traditional guest book left behind, I think that is a tired trend and there are so many different cool things you can do now. One thing we offer is having an artist present to help wedding guests paint a mural at their wedding based on the couple– its such a fun way for everyone to “leave their mark” at the wedding and the bride and groom get to take home a cool custom piece of art at the end. Whether its that or a number of other options there are so many options now to get creative at your wedding!
What tips or advice can you give to couples who are in the midst of planning their big day?
Take a deep breath! So many wedding planning details can seem overwhelming, surround yourself with friends and vendors who you trust to help you and make your day easier, not more stressful. Remember at the end of the day this is about celebrating the beginning of your life together, don’t compromise on things just to satisfy others and do whatever it takes to make your day easy and stress-free! When choosing vendors I would also recommend choosing people they really like and get along with who are easy to work with and responsive– remember you’re going to have a relationship with these people throughout the planning process so even if a florist is the highest rated in the city, if you have to call them 6 times every time you have a question it might not be the right choice for you.
