Today’s wedding vendor interview is with Grace, the owner of Bella Bridal & Heirlooms, an online boutique specializing in elegant bridal accessories! Enjoy:

Tell us a bit about yourself and your company.

While studying Fashion Design at FIT, I worked for a Wedding Photographer and interned at Amsale and Bruce Oldfield. I loved being around all the gorgeous wedding dresses and accessories. After graduating, I worked as an Assistant Designer on the Lauren Ralph Lauren Collection working my way up to Associate Designer. After 10 years in the fashion industry, I decided to stop designing and start raising a family. Now, 12 years later, I am a proud mom of 4 wonderful children and an amazing business. Bella Bridal & Heirlooms is a one stop shop for your wedding day needs. I started this company because I wanted every bride to be able to have a Royal Wedding without the price tag!

How did you get into the business?

Now that my children are all in school full time, I wanted to go back to work full-time. It was not easy finding a full-time job I loved, so I decided to create my own full time job. I have always been the ‘go to girl’ when friends and family were in search of great wedding ideas. I convinced my husband to help me turn my love for fashion and weddings into an online Bridal Boutique. A year later we are still working together and we love what we do!

What’s your favorite part of the job?

My favorite part of the job is researching the latest trends and finding new products to sell. I also love talking to brides when they call or email me about our products. And I love when brides send us pictures of themselves wearing our products. (And working with my hubby, of course!!)

If you could pick one unique product or service offering, which would be your favorite, why?

My favorite products are our handmade headpieces. They are constructed so beautifully. They are perfect for the bride or bridal party.

What’s the biggest lesson you have learned, and would you pass along to others just getting started in your field.

The biggest lesson I learned is that it is not so easy starting an e-commerce business. I originally thought that because I didn’t have a brick and mortar it would be easy starting an online only business, but I was wrong! It is a lot of work building a website, and having customers find you.

What are your hobbies or non-work related activities?

Every free moment I have is directed toward my four children, so when I am not working I enjoy bike riding and playing basketball with them. On summer days I love watching them swim and kayak in the Bay. We spend our Friday nights watching movies together. They love watching the 80’s movies that I grew up watching! When my kids are all tucked in I love spending my nights crocheting or catching up with what’s on my DVR. (Downton Abbey being my favorite)

Any great stories from working with a client?

Brides can create a wish list on our website. I love when moms go on the wish list and surprise their daughters with a purchase! They are so lucky to have such loving moms that want to help them out. I love getting photos from these brides wearing our accessories. Their smiles are priceless!

What makes you different from others in your field?

I guess what sets us apart from other companies is that we are a married duo, passionate about our business. We have been happily married for 15 years and enjoy helping couples plan their dream wedding. We are always available by phone or email to answer any questions. I also started making handmade ring pillows that are one of a kind. I love working with my hands and creating new accessories. I hope to one day add a section on our website of all my one of a kind products!

Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see a bride leave behind?

Trends come and go so quickly, so I try not to get attached! I like to mix it up! For example, we all know what a hot trend burlap is. If you are having a rustic Fall Wedding and want to accessories with burlap and mason jars I would say don’t overdo it! Mix burlap with some bling and maybe substitute stem glasses or champagne flutes for mason jars. There aren’t any trends that I want to see go away; I just think you should mix it up to give it a fresh look!

What advice or tip can you give to couples who are in the midst of planning their big day?

You can have the wedding of your dreams without going broke, so my advice is research before you buy. We are so fortunate to live in this day and age where we have resources at our fingertips. Google everything you want for your wedding and try to find the best quality and price.
