Today’s wedding vendor interview is with Micah and Lish of Neck & Tie Co., creators of bespoke haberdashery! Enjoy:

Tell us a bit about yourself and your company.

We are Micah + Lish. Neck and Tie was birthed out of years of Micah’s desire to do a craft and to do it well. Lish came alongside with her ideas for a new look and feel. We have been making handcrafted neckwear for about three years. It has been quite the journey of discovering ourselves and the kind of company we want to be. We have strong values for excellence, craftsmanship, detail and compassionate hearts to hopefully one day see our little business make some kind of difference in people’s lives.

How did you get into the business?

When the trend for neckties went more modern we had a whole slew of big old fat neckties in our closet. We decided to slim them down. We learned a bit about tie-making from this process and decided we wanted to be creative and start from scratch. That was the beginning. Now we offer ties, bow ties, pocket squares, and suspenders.

What’s your favorite part of the job?

Micah loves quality craftsmanship and clean aesthetic. His favorite part of the job is showing up everyday and using his hands to create something beautiful and unique, and of course the pictures of the happy bride and groom after the wedding is said and done.

Lish’s favorite part of the job is design and color. She loves to help couples find the perfect fabric for their perfect day. She also doesn’t mind some of the making, kicking back sipping an ice coffee and sewing on buttons for days.

If you could pick one unique product or service offering, which would be your favorite, and why?

Everything we make is unique. We can’t pick a favorite, after all would you pick favorites between your children? Our clients are all so creative and we love partnering with them to create beautiful neckwear that compliments their color/style.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to others just getting started in your field?

Practice really does make perfect. We have spent ours in the shop perfecting our offerings, and we are still learning. We believe this will be a never ending process of innovation and learning. It is vital to a business to always be seeking out constructive criticism from your clients, after all they are the one the final product is for. The day we stop asking for help or learning new things is that day we tear down shop.

What are your hobbies or non-work-related activities?

As much as we love fashion, we both love crossfit. Crossfit feeds our need for intensity and healthy lifestyle. When we’re not making ties you can most likely find us in the gym or drinking something very green.

Any great stories from working with a client?

Our clients are all so unique, so it is very hard to pick one. Our favorite clients are definitely the ones who ask for our design advice on top of our tie making expertise. This gives us the opportunity to collaborate with a client and create something even more unique and eye catching than what they had in mind. Most of our clients think this way anyways and we adore them for that!

What makes you different from others in your field?

We see ourselves set apart from others based on the fact that we are first husband and wife, and second, business partners and it comes in that order… Always. This value is the most important to us.  We will always put down what we are doing to work through our differences and maintain our love connection. We believe in unrelenting love in our crazy world and want to see others thrive in it.  This is partly why we love what we do so much. We get to interact with and provide a service for two people madly in love. Its seriously the best!

Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind?

We are absolutely geeking out over florals right now, but we also love unique geometrics and marbled dyed fabrics. Raw silks and textured linens are also big in our repertoire. There is not much we won’t do since we boast the “custom” label! We really believe you can rock most anything with a dash of confidence… even comic strip print.

What tips or advice can you give to couples who are in the midst of planning their big day?

Stay calm, breathe deep, laugh at your mistakes, kiss each other often, and don’t forget the details are secondary to your unique love.
