Today’s wedding vendor interview is with Yvette Jones of Chic Designs by Yvette, based in New York, NY. Enjoy!

Tell us a bit about yourself and your company.

Inspired by notions of beauty, spirituality and my environment, I approach my design aesthetic as an artist who explores my art-making process. My designs are a reflection of my background in the fine arts realm, uniting my vibrant stones with the infinite potential of line, color, form, and pattern, creating versatile and dynamic jewelry that remains relevant beyond contemporary trends.

My meditative selection of materials reflects my belief in the transcendental power of stones and their spiritual ability to connect individuals across cultures. Sparkling Swarovski, Preciosa crystals, rhinestones, and colored gemstones make up my assemblage. M unique collection of necklaces, bracelets, and earrings encourage personal style and fashion-forward statements that foster elegance, vibrancy, and versatility. My jewelry collections include necklaces, bracelets, earrings, hair accessories, and bridal jewelry, among others.

How did you get into the business?

My niece used to work for Harman-Importing Corp and one day stopped by to visit and dropped off a bag of Swarovski crystals, rhinestones etc… in my lap and I asked her what am I going to do with these? She responded “you’re crafty, you will think of something” and I took the bag out one day and started working and have been hooked ever since. Also, friends and family members had admired my designs.

What’s your favorite part of the job?

Designing and making my customers unique, one of a kind and memorable pieces.

If you could pick one unique product or service offering, which would be your favorite, and why?

My favorite product is our LoveNote Scrolls with a personalized message. A keepsake for Bride, Groom, Wedding Party or Guests who attend the wedding. Why? It allows me to commemorate the special day.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to others just getting started in your field?

In an industry as difficult as ours, it’s key to work hard and keep up with trends, designing and making new pieces and stay true to your own design aesthetic.

What are your hobbies or non-work-related activities?

Playing board games with my family, photography and craft projects.

Any great stories from working with a client?

Brides appreciating custom designed pieces to fit the theme of their wedding.

What makes you different from others in your field?

Although my jewelry and hair accessories are handmade, I make sure I incorporate the design aesthetic for the Bride.

Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind?

Trends I love are: off the shoulder strapless, 90’s minimalism, shades of blush from peach to soft shades of nude, high to low hems, and candlelight weddings.

What tips or advice can you give to couples who are in the midst of planning their big day?

Be patient, flexible, know your color schemes from the wedding to the reception and most of all they both should enjoy the planning stages of Mr. Groom and Mrs. Bride.
