Today’s wedding photographer interview is with Jasmine Norris-Dixson, Owner of Jasmine Norris Photography, based in Lafayette, IN! Enjoy:
Tell us a bit about yourself and your company.
I’m Jasmine, a world explorer who enjoys too much gummy candy! Most days you will find me curled up on the couch with my husband, Devin, and our cat, Dior. I’m an award-winning wedding photographer who has been featured in over 100 publications including WeddingLovely, The Knot, Bridal Guide, Huffington Post, and more. I’m a photographer for the romantic and joyful couples who want their wedding day to be authentic. I believe that an image should last a lifetime. That the love you for each other, right now, at this moment, should be told and passed down through the generations. I believe that the real authentic aspects of your wedding are what should be remembered. The joy and love, the laughter and tears, the little details and the big events. Every single element should be captured.

How did you get into wedding photography?
I kind of fell into wedding photography. I started out as a concert photographer and photographed local bands as well as bands who were at the top of the charts. When I was planning my own wedding, I fell in love with weddings and wedding photography. I photographed a friend’s wedding a few months before my husband and I tied the knot and knew that wedding photography was something I wanted to pursue. I haven’t looked back!
What is your favorite part of the wedding day to capture?
I love all parts of the wedding day, each part is special for its own reason. One of my favorite moments is the First Dance. The couple is finally married and gets to spend a few minutes in their own little world and the looks that they give each other during that dance are just precious!
What is the most awkward moment you’ve experienced while on the job?
I once was taking a portrait of the bride and groom, walked backwards to get a better angle, tripped over a sidewalk ledge, and landed on my back with my feet in the air. Just a little awkward! However, I managed to save my equipment by holding my camera up in the air during the fall.
What is your favorite venue and why?
Honestly, I don’t have a favorite venue. I love the vast majority of venues that I’ve had the opportunity of photographing. They are each special and unique in their own way and normally tie into the couple and their wedding perfectly.
Nikon or Canon?
I’m a Nikon gal! I had a Nikon point and shoot camera at one point so when I decided to get into photography and get a DSLR, I stayed with the brand.
What is your dream location to shoot a wedding?
Oh my, so many dream locations! I’d love to shoot a theme park wedding or a wedding on top of a mountain.
If you could shoot any celebrity wedding (past, present or future), who would be the lucky couple?
I’ve always had a fascination with the Royal Family so I would LOVE to photograph a Royal Wedding. All the special things that happen with Royal Weddings would be so neat to document. Hint, hint, Prince Harry and Megan! :)
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding photographers just getting started?
Keep pushing yourself and improving and to not give up! All photographers look back at their early work and cringe so don’t get discouraged if you feel like your work doesn’t match other photographers work, you’ll get there the more you practice and photograph.
What tips or advice can you give to couples who are looking to hire a photographer to cover their big day?
Besides loving the photographer’s work, you should also make sure that your personalities mesh well together. Your wedding photographer will be with you all day long on your wedding day so you will want to make sure it’s someone who you get along with and can relax around.
