I have been planning weddings and events professionally for nearly 10 years and started with So Eventful 4 years ago and I couldn’t imagine doing anything else. Being a part of someone’s special day truly brings me happiness in every way. We have an amazing team of 13 planners ready to take over the world, or plan, design and perfectly execute any type of event. I love working with this large group of talented ladies, I feel like we are all constantly learning and evolving as planners by sharing our knowledge and experience. How did you get into wedding planning?
I’ve always had a knack for planning and designing it seems. As a young girl, I was the bossy 9 year old going door to door to all of my neighbors, clipboard in hand, planning the annual block parties. Years later and thousands of various events later, I found myself planning weddings and events of all sorts for a large corporate hotel. After meeting Marisa Ferrell, owner of So Eventful, I knew that I had to leave the corporate world and focus more on the weddings and designing of new and exciting venues.
What’s your favorite part of the job?
Every single day is different. I absolutely love the variety of clients, venues and styles I have the pleasure of working with every single day. But when it comes down to the actual wedding day, I get to look at all of the hard work and admire my design come to life and see the smiles on my couples faces light up the room. I love knowing that I relieved stress and pressure from my clients so that they actually get to enjoy their big day.
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding planners just getting started?
You need thick skin at times in this business. You have to try and learn not to take harsh words personally and you can’t let the mean words of a stressed out bride or her mother get to you. I used to get so upset if my clients would yell at me for things like her dress not being in on time or the weather decided not to cooperate and I would feel guilty knowing that there was nothing I could do about it. Sometimes, very early on, I would cry out of frustration. It took me a few seasons to learn to not take those words so personally. More often than not, they just need to vent and everything will be okay.
What are your hobbies or non-work-related activities?
I LOVE to cook and entertain my friends and family! On the rare occasion I get some time off during wedding season, you can usually find me in the woods or by a body of water camping and playing in the water with my dog!
Any great stories from working with a client?
Oh man, there are too many! One of my recent clients and I spent a day tasting cheeses for their wedding cake made of wheels of cheese. Yes I said Cheese. We had the best time going to cheese shops and even to some of the creameries and learning about how it was all made. We had a mutual love for cheese so needless to say spending an afternoon tasting dozens of varieties and pairings was a great way to spend a Sunday!
What is your current favorite color combination?
I am a sucker for neutral tones in fun texture linens topped with shades of greens, cream and pale pinks. Simple, Classy, Elegant.
Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind?
I have to be the one to say it…. Mason Jars. They need to go!
What tips or advice can you give to couples who are in the midst of planning?
At the end of the day, you have 6-8 hours so you better enjoy it. Try not to focus too much on the little things, let your planner do that so you can enjoy your engagement and entire wedding experience. You only get to do it once, make it memorable!
