Today’s wedding stationer interview is with Ashley Barado, Owner of InvitoBella, LLC based in Hammond, LA. Enjoy!
How did you get started doing wedding invitations?
I’ve always been creative and loved crafts. I started InvitoBella in 2011 when making invitations for family & friends became a passion and an idea for a business was formed. I was being asked to make invitations and/or event brochures regularly so I decided to go for it. Like they say, “go big or go home.” What started out as a hobby became my business!

What is your favorite color combination?
My favorite color combinations change with the season depending on the weather. Living in SE Louisiana, our seasons are limited to Spring & Fall! During Spring/Summer, I like soft greens and creams, whereas with Fall/Winter maroons and black with gold foil. Having lighter colors in the Spring/Summer gets you in the mood for sunshine and flowers. Darker colors in the Fall/Winter sets the tone for autumn weather and remind us of fireside chats and hot cocoa. The maroon/black combo is so bold yet elegant and the gold foil just make it all pop.
What is the most unique invitation you have designed?
One of my most unique invitations we designed was for a wonderful bride and groom I met in my hometown. The bride wanted a classic wedding invitation with pizazz but didn’t want to break the bank. Between the two of us, we were able to come up with a beautiful shimmer purple pocket card with a silver flourish design and bracket die cut pocket. The invitation itself was on basic white card stock with matching flourishes and calligraphy typography. The invitation and matching Response Card that was inserted in the pocket were so cohesive and beautiful. Her guests gushed over the design elements!
Do you have a favorite typeface?
Wow – I have so many!! I’m partial to handwritten calligraphy fonts – Jacques & Gillies and Belluccia are go-to’s 90% of the time. Both are timeless and yet Jacques & Gillies adds a modern flare. Of course, Madina & BetterFly are top requested fonts at the moment too!
What is the most bizarre request you have received?
My brides are pretty modern and know what they want coming into our design consultations. I haven’t had anything too bizarre that throws me for a loop!
Ampersand or the word “and?”
Neither – I love a “+”! Joining 2 hearts as one like a math problem just gives me all the feels!
Any advice for brides?
Keep in mind that no one actually brings the invitation to the wedding to critique your decorations versus the invitation – you don’t need to be matchy-matchy! Although Pantone color tiles are my best friend, don’t limit yourself to a specific shade of purple.

Do you offer more than just stationery?
I do! I have custom tote bags (great bridal party gifts!), coffee mugs and day-of print items. We love creating our totes and mugs custom for each bride and bridal party. Presenting your bridal entourage with a special, custom gift shows how much you appreciate them!
