Today’s wedding vendor interview is with Aimee Lukin of Lukin for Love. Aimee designs fun, personalized wedding favors! Enjoy:
Tell us a bit about yourself and your company.
Hi! I’m Aimee Lukin, and I’m the creator behind Lukin For Love! With the help of my husband and mom (and the support of many others!), I hand make custom, personalized decorations and gifts for weddings, bridal showers, bachelorette parties and more! Products we offer include burlap banners, bridal party tumblers, straws with flags, ring dishes, can cozies, and ribbon wands. Every item is custom designed and made to order, in your choice of colors, fonts, styles, etc. We also love making completely custom orders, so if you have an idea of a product we don’t offer right now, let us know and we’ll work with you to create something just for you!

How did you get into the business?
I have always been “crafty” and my husband is a graphic designer, so when it came to planning our wedding in 2015, I knew I wanted us to create as many details as possible ourselves. All the small, personal details we made ourselves – glitter table numbers, ribbon wands, chalkboard signs, invitations, menus, programs – really made our day even more special, plus we had a lot of fun creating together and seeing everything “in action!” After the wedding was over and all the crafting was done, I definitely felt like I had lost my creative outlet. I had gotten many compliments at the wedding on all the things we had made; lots of people saying “you should sell these!” So I thought, well, maybe I could! And after a lot of research and set-up work, we opened Lukin for Love (a play on words with our last name) in December 2015!
What’s your favorite part of the job?
It’s two-fold. For one, I truly love working directly with brides and bridal parties. I am just so thrilled to hear an idea from a client, talk it out, and come up with something they think is perfect for their event. Along with that, I really enjoy actually creating the handmade, personalized decorations and gifts I sell! The “making” is totally therapeutic for me, and there’s nothing better than working hard on something and seeing a beautiful final product! Hearing from happy clients, who felt that what I made them was the perfect detail for their special celebration make me SO happy!
If you could pick one unique product or service offering, which would be your favorite, and why?
That is SUCH a tough question because I really love all our products…if I didn’t, I wouldn’t offer them! If I had to choose one though, I think it would be our mason jar tumblers. First off, I love a mason jar (who doesn’t?!). Plus I love seeing the font and color combinations my clients choose! There are so many choices and when they are all finished, they always look so pretty together! I love imagining the whole bridal party or bachelorette party crew using and enjoying them together!
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to others just getting started in your field?
Keep calm and carry on! Starting a small business in any industry, especially the wedding industry, takes a lot of hard work, dedication, and most importantly, passion. There will be many frustrating times when you feel like throwing in the towel – whether you are on one end of the spectrum, struggling to get up and running, or the other end, totally overwhelmed by orders and work (I’ve been in both positions over the course of a year!) – if this is something you are passionate about, you should stick with it. Also, don’t be afraid to ask for help! I have called on my family many times to help out, even if it’s just to give me a pep talk! Some kind words of encouragement from those you care about can really go a long way!
What are your hobbies or non-work-related activities?
I love to Jazzercise! I know it sounds so 80s, but it’s really a lot of fun and a fantastic workout! I also love to shop, and do non-wedding-related crafty projects for myself, friends, and family. My husband and I enjoy binge-watching shows on Netflix, trying new and interesting restaurants, and riding our tandem bike in our neighborhood on Long Island!
Any great stories from working with a client?
I recently worked with a bride who was getting married in a ruined castle in Scotland. She’s Scottish and her now-husband is American, and they were both so excited to be getting married there and thought one of my custom burlap banners would fit in perfectly with the look and feel of the castle! Knowing that something I made was even just a small part of their special day in such a special place made me so happy! I can’t wait to see her photos!
What makes you different from others in your field?
I really take the time to work with each and every one of my clients, whether it’s a bride ordering decorations for her wedding, a bridesmaid getting gifts for a bridal shower or bachelorette party, or a friend/family member wanting a special gift for a newly engaged couple. If my client is unsure of something, I like to give my input on color choices or font combinations, since I know what things look like in person versus how it looks on a computer screen. And I always send a proof or reconfirmation of the order, and work with my clients until they are 100% thrilled with what I’m making for them! My goal is to make sure my clients absolutely fall in love with what I make for them, and I’ll do everything I can to make that happen!
Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind?
I still love the rustic wedding trend (we do sell burlap banners, afterall)! And I really love all the unique and quirky wedding themes and ideas couples are coming up with! There’s nothing I love more than a wedding that looks and feels a little different than the typical. I also love a flower crown!
What tips or advice can you give to couples who are in the midst of planning their big day?
You are only engaged for a relatively short time in your life, so try your very best to enjoy the process! Part of that includes starting the planning early, and being open and honest with each other and your friends and family! It can definitely be stressful at times, but it can also be really fun!
