How did you get into the business?

By Catalfo started when I was only 17. I began sewing and designing party dresses inspired by runway fashion, and wasn’t available in my small hometown. Soon I was designing dresses for girl in my high school for semi-formals, weddings and prom. Realizing this was my passion, I started her my label in 2007 by the name of Maybe by Catalfo.

What’s your favorite part of the job?

My favourite part of my job as a Designer is watching new styles and designs come to life. I find it so much fun to discover new textiles and play with different design ideas. I always look forward to this stage in the process!

If you could pick one unique product or service offering, which would be your favorite, and why?

I have to say my favourite product offering is dresses, of course! Dresses are my favourite garments to wear; casual or dressy. I love helping bridesmaids find what they’re looking for and knowing that they feel confident in a made-to-measure Maybe dress.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to others just getting started in your field?

I think the most important thing you can do, is to finding a great mentor. Your mentor should be someone who is not only in a similar industry as you, but also someone that you trust and have a great connection with. Learning from their experience and shared wisdom is invaluable.

What are your hobbies or non-work-related activities?

Interesting question! I enjoy exploring new towns and tiny boutiques for inspiration, especially antique shops. I’m also very active and love to go on hiking trails with my family in the Muskoka and Niagara parts of Ontario. I’m also a huge pug lover, my little pug Simba is my pride and joy!

Any great stories from working with a client?

One of the biggest bridal parties I’ve worked with, of 9 girls, was from my hometown. That was super fun and sentimental since there were so many connections to where By Catalfo all started!

What makes you different from others in your field?

By Catalfo is a brand for girls not only looking for trend driven bridal fashion, but also one that is budget friendly. Usually in order to shop Designer fashions, especially those made-to-measure, you’ll pay a premium. By Catalfo custom bridesmaid dresses start at only $199. Since I work directly with all of my clients, it allows me to brides and bridal parties to be involved. I am also able to go above for the needs of each bridal party I work with.

Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind?

Bridal fashion is moving away from what’s traditional every season. I’m really excited about bridal parties looking to play with floral prints and two piece bridesmaid looks. I also love seeing wedding dresses in pretty pastel colours. I can’t wait to see where the bridal trends go over the next couple of years.

What tips or advice can you give to couples who are in the midst of planning their
big day?

Know your vision and what you want. It’s a lot easier for your wedding vendors to make your dreams come true.
