Today’s real engagement shoot comes to us from Michel Berda of King Street Photo Weddings and we’re so glad he did. The photos are edgy and romantic and the story behind them is so sweet. Here’s what Paul has to say about the shoot:
Melissa and I met, believe it or not, on Match.com. We were both coming off of divorces and were tired of the bar scene. Our interests were the same… kids, tattoos, work, cooking and guns.
See more after the cut!
We both seemed a little hesitant to go too fast. First, we found it hard to believe that there was someone else out there that shared so many things in common. Second, we were both single parents and wanted to protect our children from becoming attached to someone that wasn’t going to stick around.
A few weeks went by and we made plans to have dinner. I was a nervous wreck, but was quickly calmed by Melissa. She immediately put her arm around mine as we walked to the restaurant, letting me know that everything was going to be fine. That was December 30, 2011. We have been together ever since.
Our kids met a few months later and were acting like brothers from the start. Time passed very quickly, all the while we talked about everything from money, how to merge our families, to planning our funerals (she is a Funeral Director).
Both of us had sworn off marriage, but were caving quickly. I knew she would say yes, but it was all about the delivery for me. I don’t remember how I came up with the concept, but it all came clear one day and was very quickly planned.
The ring was on order and would be here in a few weeks, I just needed to find a photographer. I posted a request on Thumbtack.com with my idea and was contacted the next day by Michel. He seemed very eager to help.
We agreed on a date and locked it in. A few emails and a quick site meeting during lunch one day, and we had it all planned. Just because I know Melissa doesn’t like surprises, I mailed her clues about every 3-4 days in the weeks leading up to the day.
She figured out that we were having a photo shoot, but best part was yet to come. The day finally came and looked like we would have nice weather. On the way to the first location, I was completely soaked from the usual afternoon thunderstorm. Fortunately I came prepared with a change of clothes and the weather eventually passed. The shoot went perfectly. Michel gave us great direction and took some amazing pictures. Melissa looked gorgeous and really played the part.
We love to ride and the only pictures we had of each other were from a cell phone. It just made since to bring the two together. We could not be happier with how it all turned out. I could not have done it without Michel’s help and he captured my concept down to the last detail. I would do it all over again, just to see her face as I handed her the ring. On a side note….I had to ask twice because the first words out of her mouth were “You sneaky bastard!”. She eventually said “Yes”.
Congratulations Melissa and Paul! Thanks Michel for sharing! For more information about King Street Photo Weddings, visit the WeddingPhotoLove Profile or head straight to the website.
