This lovely California coast wedding was brought to us by Vikki of All You Need is Love Events. I just love all of the thoughtful handmade details! From the Bride:
Jason and I met at an in-residence leadership training program about four years ago. During the four month program, we worked together and spent time together in group settings, but the sparks didn’t start flying until the very end.

Prior to that, I had decided to take a job in LA, which put me 3000 miles away from Jason, who at the time was working in Washington DC. We did long distance for 9 months, and then he made the move out to LA. Finally in the same place, we built a life together and added our goofy black lab Shadow to our family unit.
After a year and a half of living in LA together, Jason drove me up the Pacific Coast Highway – under the pretence of going to San Francisco for a birthday party – and proposed on a beautiful beach in Monterey. After getting over the shock of it all, I said yes yes yes!
We absolutely knew we wanted to get married in California – this was where we built our life together and a symbol of us finding what we both thought was out of reach. Our goal all along was to throw a party that represented us, which is summed up by backyard barbecuing, casual comfort, our dog at our feet and always having a beer koozie handy for you and your best buddy (spouses included!).
The planning process began immediately, and while interviewing my fabulous planners, Vikki and Shannon from All You Need is Love Events, they suggested a few venues in Malibu to check out, as well as the idea of doing food stations since Jason and I are huge foodies, and we wanted the cuisine to be the epitome of comfort food where guests could go back for 2nds…and 3rds!
After securing the gorgeous Malibu location of Rancho del Cielo, I started putting together my vision to achieve a laid back, relaxing California wedding, while also taking full advantage of the beautiful rustic vibe at RdC. I wouldn’t say I decided on a color palette rather than it just happened to me – I wanted blush bridesmaid dresses for a summer wedding, and I wanted vintage blue mason jars as centrepieces.
Add in some ivory and that became the palette. A very talented friend of mine used this palette and mason jars to design custom save the dates and invitations that really set the tone for the wedding. I began scouring flea markets and antique shops for vintage blue mason jars and other flower and candle holders to add to the vintage decor. I also wanted to focus on DIY touches, such as handmade napkins of different vintage fabrics, all sewn by my mother, and chalkboard style seating charts and table numbers.
We were fortunate to have good friends bake cupcakes for our cake and brew craft beer for the reception. We topped off the bar with custom tap handles and served the beer in mason jars complete with a koozie favour to take home. Our food stations included a custom grill cheese bar, seafood bar and a taco cart – all things you would expect to find if we hosted the party at home.
Our florist Valerie from All You Need is Love Events brought it all together by incorporating my vision and colors into her flower design, including bud vases, wildflower center pieces that looked “just picked”, bridesmaid bouquets that were each a different flower in my bouquet and herb boutonnieres for the gentlemen.
All of these simple details added up to exactly the kind of wedding Jason and I had dreamed of – a fun and relaxed party where people danced the night away, ate great food, and enjoyed a fantastic sunset over the Pacific Ocean, all while celebrating our marriage with us. We quite simply had the perfect day!
