Another gorgeous real wedding sent over by Invitations by Ajalon, who did their invitations! Meet Haley and Trevor, who got married at Bald Head Island in North Carolina. The light in these photos is just so pretty! We also got a great interview with the couple about their big day — enjoy!
Can you share with us a bit about your wedding and your inspiration for your celebration?
Our wedding was June 10th, 2012 on Bald Head Island. The ceremony took place outside under a live oak tree on the grassy lawn of “Old Baldy”, the island’s lighthouse. Our goal of the wedding was to integrate the relaxed beach feel with a touch of class (orchids, tuxedos, etc.). We also wanted to make sure everyone had fun, which I think we accomplished with our Jenga guest book, photo booth and DJ!
What inspired your invitation design & ink colors?
Orchids just seemed to be a theme from the start. When we first started dating Trevor convinced me to buy some orchids (which I was pretty certain I would kill) and taught me how to care for them (his dad is a botanist and so Trevor knows all about plant care). The plants lived and from that point on we have shared a love for orchids.
We got engaged in a beautiful orchid conservatory at the Biltmore Estate and wanted orchids included in the wedding bouquets, so orchids on the invitations just made sense. The blue brought in a bit of the beach feel and was one of the colors we used in our wedding decorations.
What was your favorite design element of your big day?
I loved our invitations, but as far as the actual day I just really loved the setting of our ceremony. Not anything we set up, but the live oak next to the lighthouse was gorgeous. We also hung small galvanized steel buckets filled with flowers on the end chairs along the aisle, which added to the overall look of the ceremony. We set up a lemonade stand and provided some parasol umbrellas to keep everyone from getting too hot in the sun, which people seemed to appreciate.
Do you have any favorite moments from your wedding?
The entire night was amazing. My favorite part of my wedding was spending the night with all my friends and family. It is an amazing feeling to have everyone you love from all over the continent (US and Canada) together in one place!
What’s next for the newlyweds?
After our wedding we spent 7 weeks traveling in Thailand and Indonesia, which was absolutely amazing! We have now moved to Houston, Texas and are settling in to our new apartment.
Do you have any advice for couples in the process of planning their own weddings?
My advice would be, try to come up with an overall image of what you are going for or at least what type of feel you want for your wedding early in the planning phase. That would make all the decisions so much easier.
