This romantic seaside engagement shoot comes to us from Kristina Staal Photography, based in Oyster Bay, CT! Here’s Kristina to tell us more:
Being able to capture your little brother’s proposal to the woman of his dreams is a dream come true for every photographer! So, when my brother (Chris) asked me to capture him proposing to his soon-to-be fiancee (Michelle), at Montauk of all places, I was over the moon with excitement.
See more after the cut!
And, to make it even better, our dad agreed to fly down from Canada to help capture the proposal with his drone! The drone pictures of the landscape where my brother proposed are breathtaking, while capturing the up-close images of the proposal had me fighting off tears and a full crying breakdown in the moment!
The biggest challenge was finding a way of getting Michelle to Montauk for Chris to propose. So, we devised a plan. We convinced Michelle that I desperately needed models for a styled shoot I was planning, which would take place at Montauk and my dad would happen to be in town that weekend, so he was coming along to capture drone footage for me.
Somehow, it worked! And so, we headed towards Montauk for the day. Beforehand, Chris and I scoured the internet to find pictures of the perfect spot in Montauk (we had never been!). And somehow, we managed to make it to that perfect spot without Michelle ever guessing she was actually going to be proposed to.
Once we made it to the perfect spot, my dad and husband began to set up the drone and play around with it, while I styled Michelle with a floral crown I made for her (and my brother’s request!…how sweet!), and began taking pictures of them. Beforehand, Chris and I came up with a signal of when he would propose, and I’d then signal that back to my dad.
About 10 minutes into the shoot, the signal came, and I told Michelle to walk away because I wanted to capture shots of her walking away from me. When I told her to turn around, my brother was facing her, and she began walking towards him, and then he got down on one knee, and she was in complete shock!
Luckily, we dodged a rain storm coming from off in the distance, and were able to finish off capturing some real engagement session photos of them around Montauk right after the proposal. The expressions and tears on Michelle’s face tell the story perfectly, and I hope you enjoy their proposal as much as we did!
