Mexican destination wedding

If you’re dreaming of a destination wedding in Mexico, then today’s guest post, brought to us by Gareth Davies Photography  is for you!

Getting married in the Mexican Riviera Maya is very common with foreign couples, and one of the most popular places in the world for destination weddings. I am sure it comes as no surprise, many foreigners get engaged here and seek to have their destination wedding in one of the abundant locations in Mexico, be it on the pristine beaches in the Riviera Maya, in a majestic colonial house in Merida, Yucatan or in a lush garden setting in Cuernavaca, Morelos. Something the Mexican wedding scene doesn´t lack are stunning wedding venues.

Meet a Wedding Photographer in Playa del Carmen, Mexico: Melissa Mercado Photography (3)

Today’s photographer interview is with Melissa of Melissa Mercado Photography, based in the stunning Mayan Riviera! Enjoy:

Tell us a bit about yourself and your company:

After a little more than 7 years I graduated college never believing that I’d make a living out of taking pictures. I always figured I’d be great at helping others realize their dreams and connecting with their clients would be awesome for me. Having supported myself through school in various customer service jobs, I loved people and my hobby of capturing my friends fulfilled my desires to shoot.  But the life happened and I went to a party and made one connection, then I went to a wedding and made another, and through a series of seemingly random events I realized I was pretty good about giving the universe directions and giving it the space to figure out the how.  After nearly 4 years of running a wildly successful destination wedding studio I earnestly missed shooting and got the itch to just go. So nearly 4 years ago I jumped feet first into a seemingly empty swimming pool and found just enough water to not drown. I’ve worked hard, played harder and laughed so many brides away from the brink of tears that I couldn’t imagine not having made a living freezing memories. My dog is my balance, my work is my passion and I live in paradise. Life’s alright.

Meet a Wedding Photographer in Playa del Carmen, Mexico: Bohemia Photography (5)

Today’s wedding photographer interview is with Misti and Colin of Bohemia Photography, based in beautiful Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Enjoy!

Tell us a bit about yourself and your company.

We are Misti and Colin and we are a destination wedding, husband and wife photography team based in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. We are originally from the United States, but decided to make the big move to Mexico three years ago. We were both working in unfulfilling corporate type jobs, and doing photography on the side. We started taking frequent weekend escapes and holiday breaks to Mexico for a break in our daily routine 7 years ago. Eventually, we felt we were more ourselves in Mexico, like a weight had been lifted from us. We started dreaming about it and soon moving to Mexico completely dominated our conversations. We were probably pretty annoying about it actually!

Long story short, after 2 years of dreaming and planning, we decided to take the leap and move out of the country! We quit our jobs, sold all of our belongings and took 4 suitcases and our 2 cats and started life over in Mexico. We’ve been here in Playa del Carmen for 3 years and everyday I feel so grateful and happy we decided to take the risk. Now instead of a cold cubicle, we get to photograph people on the happiest day of their lives in tropical paradise, it just doesn’t get better than that. :)
